Ingrown hairs are a health problem in which hairs falling from the nape of the neck or hairs that originate in the tailbone area become stuck in the skin and grow internally causing inflammation.
Ingrown hair (pilonidal sinus) destroys the are it ingrows into, just like a mole, and sometimes there is also possible leakage of purulent fluid from the starting point.
There are various options for surgical or chemical treatment. The important thing in this case is that the treatment is determined by issues such as the size and location of the area of damage caused by the pilonidal disease, as well as the elasticity of the patient's skin.
It is not correct to tell the patient what surgical technique will be chosen before a thorough blue dye examination is performed during the surgery.
For example, laser treatment of a serious ingrown hair problem with chronic infection is inadequate and increases the risk of subsequent problems.
In particular, the later the ingrown hair problem is treated, the larger area it affects and the size of the procedure to be performed increases. Early diagnosis and a proper treatment are important.
Chemical treatment, laser treatment, surgical treatment with or without flaps are performed in our centre.
The procedures are performed with spinal anaesthesia. It usually takes 30 minutes. Hospitalization for 1 night is sufficient. The recovery period varies between 1 week and 1 month depending on the size of the procedure.
